Renault has revealed plans to put two small electric vehicles on sale from 2011
A new city car based on the Twizy Zero Emission (ZE) concept will be built in Spain from 2011, while an electric supermini will commence production in France during 2012 – these are expected to account for two-thirds of all Renault electric car production.
The Spanish Valladolid plant, situated around 100 miles from Madrid, already produces the Modus alongside some Clio variants and it was chosen to produce the city car due to its experience in producing small cars. Its sister plant, Flins, in France was similarly chosen as a result of the staff’s specialist knowledge in producing the Clio and Clio Campus models. The Flins factory will become an essential part of Renault’s electric future and will be instrumental in the manufacturing and recycling of batteries. The French firm has said that it’s home country will still be at the heart of its Renault zero emissions vehicle strategy, though.
